Liz Dea:
I started my career in criminal defense investigations with the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office after graduating from the University of San Francisco. It was a time when few women were defense investigators in the state. I was among the first three women investigators in that office.

After a year, I left to pursue a degree in architecture, but I kept in touch with my San Francisco boss, Chief Investigator Harry Guyton, with whom I still maintain a close friendship.

I returned to criminal investigations when I joined the Alameda County Public Defender’s office where I continue to work with attorneys assisting them with information for our clients.

I have been a DIA board member for many years, serving as President, Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer. This is my second time as President. I have watched DIA grow through the years and am proud that DIA can provide consistent professional training to its members. I feel confident with the present Board and am inspired by their hard work and enthusiasm.

In my spare time, I enjoy varied interests including the outdoors, hiking, camping, natural hot springs, reading, good wine with friends, all types of music, movies and theater.
