Anne Favor:
My dad was a Detroit Police Officer, and my hero. I don’t remember a time that I consciously made a decision to make law enforcement my career goal, it just seemed to be the natural path. Upon receiving my degree in law enforcement I was hired to work for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department in Pontiac, Michigan. I quickly realized that I did not share the same attitude as my comrades. After witnessing an inmate’s physical abuse at the hands of fellow officers, and the generally dehumanizing and poor treatment of inmates, I quickly realized that my compassion for the human condition and my strong sense that a person is more than the worst thing they’ve ever done in their life, rendered me incapable of carrying out the duties that were expected of me.
In 1992 I came to work for the Ventura County Public Defenders Office as an Assistant Investigator. Following a series of promotions and the untimely death of my predecessor, Art Jimenez in 2004, I am now the Chief Investigator for Ventura County Public Defender Office.
I believe that defense investigators are the last line of defense for our indigent clients. Defense investigators have a very difficult and thankless job. It will challenge our energy, determination, diligence and creative mind. I am honored to be a defense investigator, and privileged to be surrounded by such a dedicated and hard-working group of individuals who fight a continuous uphill battle to protect the rights of the less fortunate. I’m especially privileged to work with Ventura County Public Defender Investigators who epitomize and demonstrate daily what it truly is to be a defense investigator.
Thank you for electing me to the DIA Board.
